#2 Middleweight World Ranked

Sweden’s Maria Lindberg is a two time World Champion, having secured both the WIBA and WIBF titles during her nine year professional career.

Maria quickly established herself as a star, after securing Swedish Amateur 71kg title in 1998, just one year after taking up the sport. Naturally Maria become an integral member of the Swedish Amateur National Team.

Maria made her professional debut in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, on July 1st 2003, where she beat Kitty Pugh by a unanimous points decision. Maria followed this with a draw, against Ann Saccurato, in Washington DC 10 months later.

Following a four year sabbatical, Maria returned to the ring in November 2008, with a points victory over Pia Porter in Magdeburg, Germany. Another draw, against Conjestina Achieng, followed in May 2009 before Maria got her first taste of Championship action.

On the 19th September Maria faced, and beat, Great Britain’s Sara Davis to secure the WIBF Light Middleweight title in only her fifth professional bout. In July the following year Maria successfully defended her WIBF crown, with a third round stoppage victory over Mihaela Dragan. Four months later Maria added the WIBA title to her collection with a resounding points victory over Belgium’s Diane Schwachhofer.

In May 2011 Maria suffered her first career loss, when she challenged Christina Hammer for her WBO and WBF titles. In her only bout, to date, in 2012 Maria defeated Diana Kiss in a non-Championship bout, in Hamburg, Germany.
